Purpose:  LoftLit is a website for Dara's students at South Pasadena High School.  They use its forum to discuss their literature assignments.

LoftLit is a website I designed for my wife, Dara Loftis.  She is an English teacher at South Pasadena High School.  The site provides her students with an online forum for discussing the literature they read.  Dara and I worked together on this design.

Dara gave me a page full of doodles vaguely related to the themes in the literature she teaches.  It was simply black ink on white paper.  I scanned in those images and grouped them into two columns in Photoshop.  I played around with colors and texture to make the doodles richer on the site's page background.

For the masthead, Dara drew the crude outlines of different size books lined up on a shelf.  I scanned that into Photoshop and created a unique look for each book's binding.  The book titles correspond with the texts she uses in her courses.

The site is powered by Wordpress and the Simple Machines Forum.  It was a challenge to integrate the databases that keep the member profiles and login information.  I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to make the templates for these two separate content platforms look seamlessly part of the same website.
