Jessica Molčan's pieces are contraditions within themselves, supplying both compellingly beautiful yet disturbingly erotic imagery. Being stripped of their innocence, her figures being the salvaged remains of experience. The beautiful, soft pastel colours create a welcoming atmosphere in an otherwise melancholic and morbid theme. Jessica has voiced that her inspiration is derived from her subconscious, fears and hopes, observations and the world around her.

Each piece contain their own haunted preservation of mysterious memory. Fascinated with the push and pull reaction, Jessica has attempted to make her audience uncomfortable while still presenting an accessible piece of artwork. Her work has been visceral, ominous, disturbing, and at times macabre. Her pieces pair a sharp, graphic tendency with an expressive application of colour. Jessica's pieces are simultaneously influenced by Art Nouveau, surrealism and a touch of Japanese illustration. Read Less

Jessica has been creating artwork her whole life, and her journey is only just beginning.

At a young age, Jessica was inspired to create by the world around her. An introvert, most summer days were spent drawing on the patio or with her nose in a book full of fantastical adventures. Imagining her own world became an integral part of her artwork, piecing her own surreal imagery together with fragments of dreams, desires and the living world around her.

Taking these two passions with her in later years, Jessica graduated from Vancouver Island University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature and fine art. As her artistic skill has developed, so has her passion for learning. Jessica will be attending Emily Carr University in the fall to complete a Bachelor of Fine Art degree, pushing her artwork further than ever before.

Jessica aspires to work in art education and art therapy, believing strongly in the theraputic qualities of artwork getting those who have suffered psychological trauma through the darkness into light.
