Who am I?

I am a Product Design and Robotics (BSc) undergraduate student at the School of Engineering & Information Sciences at Middlesex University. I have just completed my 2nd year with a 2:1. My other qualifications are 3 A-levels in Design & Technology, Art & Design and Physics as well as 8 GCSEs.


Experience

All aspects of my course over the past two years have been both enjoyable and valuable. I have enthusiastically approached any opportunities that have come my way such as working for the freelance designer Moritz Waldemeyer on a project for Mercedes. I am an exceptionally hard working student and am highly dedicated to all aspects of my course.

Over the past two years I have gained significant experience and knowledge with Picaxe and Arduino micro-controllers as well as mechatronic and electronic applications.

I have used these skills to compete in Eurobot’s 2011 UK Final in which my team came 5th out of the 17 teams entered. During the designing and construction of my team’s robot, electronic, mechanical and logistical problems were met and solved. Much of our robot was made using innovative alternatives to more expensive standard components.

The World Skill UK Mobile Robotics 2010 and 2011 are competitions I was invited to represent Middlesex University in. For these events a teammate and I have had to learn by ourselves how to operate Festo’s Robotino. This has allowed me to further develop my skills in programming and the application of sensor technology.


Skills

I am always prepared to learn new skills and develop those that I already have. All areas of Design and Technology fascinate me and I thrive on any chance available to broaden my knowledge of these areas. I am very capable of researching areas that are new to me and can work well in either a team or on my own. I always use my initiative and adopt an appropriate and competent approach to any task at hand. I am not afraid to ask for advice when I need it.

I am a fluent touch-typist and am proficient with any other literacy skills necessary within a technical environment. Computing is an area in which I excel. My knowledge includes: Solidworks, AutoCAD, 2D Design, 3DStudio Max, Adobe CS5, and Microsoft Office. I am familiar with both Mac and PC operating systems. My mathematical skills are strong and enable me to make precise and accurate calculations during projects.


Work Ethic

My work ethic is extremely important to me, as is my reputation. I strive to maintain high standards and meet all deadlines. I’m exceptionally tidy, organised and reliable. This year I have consistently set my targets above what is required and it is not uncommon for me to work longer hours most other students. I love what I do and that feeds my drive. Read Less
