Rather than trying to explain who I am today, it is easier to demonstrate who I am by way of who I have been. There are fundamental themes that tie together my experiences and roles accepted. I would like to address my most favorite role, and by favorite I mean the role most often accepted, that of a champion of underdogs.
A champion of underdogs: One that would rather take the odds stacked against him/her than to take a safer, easier road. One that looks at adversity and sees opportunity. One that loves the story of overcoming more than the story of winning.
It has been the thread that has sewn together my purpose and my approach. I have been active in social equity, social sustainability, environmental sustainability, tutored kids who "are not supposed to make it," and volunteered in neighborhoods that "don't matter." I like music that is "noisy" and is never going to make it to the radio. I like art that "doesn't make sense." I like to find breaking points and test these points.
