Design Week Concept

As part of the Serif blog re-designer we we’re asked to redesign the cover of current UK design magazine Design Week. The following is my response to the brief which was featured on the Serif last year.

The basic concept was to create a strong, consistent cover structre for the masthead and associated information which allows a particular piece of content from each issue to take over the magazine cover making each completely different as well and thus increasing standout on the shelf but still maintaining the Design Week branding in a consistent location and style to aid with recall. The first image shows the redesigned covers launch issue showing where the structure derives from which is a literal type based design week. The type gradiates out towards the end of the week to echo the feeling amongst many designers as the weekend approaches. Also shown are an illustration based cover issue and photography based version to show the flexibility of the structure. (Illustration by Si Scott.)
