It's J.J. Walker's fault. The catchphrase kid from Good Times, hawking Altoids from the pages of my new guitar mag. Just below his platform shoes and bellbottoms rested the pun-tastic headline: "DYNOMINT!"
And so I discovered that ew, advertising, could actually be funny, smart, clever, and best of all, ridiculous. What's more, that some smart ass ad guy (or girl) got paid just to make a deft reference to Good Times.
Fast forward a decade or so and I'm here in the greatest city in the world, doing my best to make ads with deft Good Times references (or the rough equivalent).
