“things i don’t need” is an illustration and a crowdsourced art project. I started the zine when an old boyfriend moved out, his 'stuff' was still everywhere, in drawers, under the bed, and I realised how insignificant objects can be quite emotive. They are also aspirational, we buy a lot of superfluous goods, which we then can't throw away, we live in a culture which requires us to constantly update our tech whilst being told at the same time that we must recycle, and we have all had to tighten our belts lately. So, it's a project about clutter, the stuff we hang on to, consumerism, waste, unhelpful states of mind even, but it's a humorous look at all this borne out of a sometime need just to rant.
I have just started a crowdsourced strand to the project via Twitter, Facebook and Flickr. I really want people to tell me about the things in life that ‘irk’ them too, contributions will then become the subject matter for an animation. All the social media spaces are here:
