No opening of all the drawers or going to the shelf just to get what you need at that moment for the project you're currently working on. Everything you need you can now put beside you in the desk and always have it in sight without cluttering the precious space on the desktop.  There are also holes in the desktop where you can get all the wires to your monitor or laptop through, or just put a pen holder in. The desk is made of plywood, lacquered and/or veneered, in various color combination.
