Lewis and Clark Expedition, Voyage of Discovery. In 1804 the Men of the Corps of Discovery, Lewis and Clark, a

'rest-area' stop and incidently the trading post of Indian gifts and trade goods, later became the future city’s

first permanent settlement.

The Arch is a memorial to Thomas Jefferson’s role in opening the West, to the pioneers who helped shape its

history, and to Dred Scott who sued for his freedom. Read Less
