The design brief for this project is to understand others culture and give it a comtemporary twist. The design of the chair was enticed by the way of life in Sarawak and their unique art of weaving.
Users are able to enjoy the additional space provided to get into the position they are comfortable. Through studies of the body language, people are able to identify the mood of the user via interaction with the chair. I was also inspired by the people of the Sarawak for replacing the usual rattan weaving to the modern plastic strapping method which is a material largely more available to the people. Taking the gist of this improvement, I chose a unique medium, which is shadowing casting, to glorify the weaving patterns.
