The Haven House team focused on the design, construction, and testing of a transitional housing model in collaboration with the Thomas Jefferson Area Coalition for the Homeless. As part of the established partnership with TJACH, the team developed a transitional housing community as a prefabricated, panelized system that can be deployed as a flat-packed unit to a Charlottesville site. The Haven House is intended to provide an immediate, temporary housing alternative to church basements, nightly shelters and ad hoc campsites while TJACH works towards more permanent housing solutions. Strategies of passive environmental design optimize indoor light and air quality, and exterior spaces are intended to help promote social interaction and a renewed sense of community. Read Less
