green-UP Deerfield Identity

  • green Up Deerfield is a campaign I developed for the Village of Deerfield’s Energy and Resource Recovery Commission. The commission has expanded its mission from negotiating village rates with utility and waste management companies to advocating for sustainable practices village-wide. It hopes to make Deerfield a “sustainable community in a sustainable world” through educational programming, volunteer opportunities, information technology and advocating for sustainable policies. Often sustainability campaigns focus on what people are doing wrong and use fear to motivate people into action.
  • With all of this in mind, I needed to create a fun campaign people would want to be involved in while remaining positive and future focused. The “green Up” idea is focused on moving upward from where we already are. It assumes most of us are already doing small things to help our environment but it also encourages us to do more. A grassroots movement starts from the bottom up and the logo needed to reflect that. The moving up concept is visually represented by the evergreen tree, which mimics an arrow. A simple white vinyl banner sports the green UP Deerfield logo along with the commission’s website address. This banner is to be used in a variety of settings including table displays, fundraisers, trade shows and even parades. To accommodate the multi-purpose banner two grommets were installed to ease with hanging.
