for/against poster

  • This school assignment is still one of the strongest and most powerful conceptual ideas I have ever had. For this project I wanted to do something provocative. Human castration is a procedure many sexual predators are forced to undergo upon their release from prison. Each side of this issue can be viewed from a humane perspective and I believe this is the most appropriate way of tackling such a sensitive topic.
The poster above strives to convince the viewer to be against castrating sex offenders. I wanted the bold WANTED: your MANHOOD to stand out first because it would catch a viewer's attention, especially males and invokes an emotional response. Then upon a second look the viewer sees the humanMANHOOD element. A landscape orientation is uncommon and forces the bolded words to the forefront of the page.
  • I was originally going to use photographs to take a humanistic and personal approach but after spending several nights alone looking through mugshots of offenders on the National Sex Offender Registry, I ultimately decided to break away from this idea. This keeps the offenders and their victims anonymous and forces the viewer to think about who’s saying this? The harsh reality is is that it could be anyone (as I found out that a neighbor up the street from my house has been charged with child pornography).
