'attaba'
A journey walking through the streets, Attaba is a collage of sounds that I collected. It is a recollection of a part of the city that is one of the noisiest, busiest and most hectic. The streets are overwhelmed with buyers and sellers, people are in a constant state of movement and shops sit abruptly exposed on the cluttered streets as cars and trucks rush by. The sounds on this album are a reflection of the soundscape and ambience of Attaba as well as play on the objects and toys I collected from several trips there.

In this work, I explore possibilities of dialogue between city and sound, where the landscape inspires the sound and in return the sound informs the listener about the characteristics and identity of the landscape, as its people project themselves on it in their habits and how they accommodate their space in their daily living. A space that carries an air of uncertainty, a dismantling immediacy and a resignation to chaos.
Observing this, I reflect back what is heard and seen in a way that can perhaps make an experience like Attaba more conscious and fathomable. Furthermore, I am experimenting with the soundscape by making and breaking the harmony and rhythm as a means of literally embodying structure and shape such as day-to-day objects and the surrounding architecture.
