Our Culture is Awash in the Pornography of Suffering - The line from the sub-title above is from Evan Dorkin's amazing Milk and Cheese series and I always think of it when I consider the presentation of bodies in our visual culture. Are these idealized bodies somehow hollow and befowled by the airbrush and corporate messaging? Don't get me wrong: I'm a fan of idealized bodies from way back. I just think there's something that threatens to eat us alive in our visual culture and this is one way to get at it –confusing sex, attraction, and death.
