Commissioned by Zizzi, the new site at Paddington Street was one of the first new refurbs designed and installed by Kavan. Paddington Street is a unique site surrounded by exciting cultures past and present, incredible food and always a great audience; these are the three components and drive for the featuring illustration. Now featuring a three part wrap around vinyl wallpaper measuring over nine metres in length. Sitting at table 37 should be an experience, surrounded by three walls of stories, ornaments and a dream like state of overlaid objects that interact with each other its almost like a modern day Sherlock Holmes study. Using the heritage associated with the area this artwork is full of traditional Great Britain, teapots and tea cups, old hat stands and umbrellas, Sherlock Holmes pipes and more. Featuring detailed content such as the library of novels, painted textures and a variety of drawing styles and pattern works. The traditional and conventional are intricately poised with a delicate balance of the surreal and the obscure using humming birds and deer stag to invite us into this dream world and keep us enjoying the image. By illustrating objects that we can all recognise but using them in unusual contexts allows us to instantly relate to the artwork and understand it but also to explore it and talk about it.
