Yonge: A Journey Down the World's Longest Street

Yonge Street
The 'Longest Street in the World'
Yonge Street isn't actually the longest street in the world. Technically it's a highway. Highway 11.

It starts in Toronto at Queen's Quay on the shores of Lake Ontario and marches Northward as Yonge Street. However, once outside the confines of the GTA and the 905, the names change rapidly and the dog-legged detours come quick and unexpectedly as it fumbles it's way around Lake Simcoe.

North of Barrie it resumes the Highway 11 mantle. From this point on the signs rarely say Yonge Street, but for the people who travel it, and the many for whom it is the only way in or out of town, it is The Eleven; it is Yonge.

In 2007 my wife and I road-tripped the entirety of Yonge Street (Highway 11) through Northern & Southern Ontario.
