the project 'Yessica's Journey'. These will be developed during the production of the animation project. The illustrations are created using traditional methods mixed with digital. All illustrations will not be included on this website until the film is released in

Yessica’s Journey is an animation project which commenced in September 2010 and will be developed over the next few years. The story is about a journey through mental illness, psychosis and recovery and is based on my own experience. The animation also incorporates the New Economics Foundation Five Ways to Wellbeing, which promotes mental wellbeing and is being promoted by many of the leading mental health organisations.
Yessica’s Journey is a collaborative project between myself and the following organisations who are supporting it. The Wellcome Trust | Norwich and Central Norfolk Mind | Rethink Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust | BDRN Cardiff University - (researching the causes of Bipolar Disorder).
We hope that this animation will help enhance peoples understanding of mental health difficulties, recovery and challenge stigma and discrimination and encourage discussion and debate. It is also our intention to develop it to be used in training workshops and education. Most of all we would like it to give people hope.
The 14 minute animation will incorporate mixed media styles, stop motion animation, puppets and cut-out style animation using Adobe After Effects. Tim Burton’s film “Vincent’, was influential in the early stages of this project. The rhyming aspect and atmospheric mood he created was truely inspirational.
