In Hinduism, Prana is the infinite matter of which energy isborn. Also interpreted as the vital, life-sustaining force of both theindividual body and the universe. Its first expounding came in theUpanishads, where it is part of the worldly, physical realm, sustainingthe body and the motherof thought and thus also of the mind. Prana suffuses all living formbut is not itself the Atma or individual soul.
