Yarra Horizon - Amcor Site Redevelopment

YARRA HORIZON - Sustainable Urban Parkland Living
-Urban redevelopment of the Amcor Site
This is the graduating piece for my final year landscape studio - Design the Sustainable Landscape.

The Amcor Site occupies 16.5 hectares of land right between Yarra River and Heidelberg Road, disconnecting the neighbourhood on its west along Chandler Highway and the neighbourhood on its east beyond Alphington Park, which both are governed by the City of Yarra. The paper packaging company is also responsible for polluting Alphington's environment on a number of occasions and has since announced its plan to move from the area, leaving the site available for redevelopment.

With the vision of the council and the community in mind, which envisions a predominantly residential community that show¬cases sustainably living, The Yarra Horizon is a development that aims to demonstrate a series of sustainable approaches and introduce a new and better lifestyle for our future generations. It encompasses 3 design principles in mind – social, economic and environmental sustainability. The development features car-free residential zones, situated in a natural parkland landscape, connected by a range of commercial and community facilities and services, with sustainable strategies and technologies implemented throughout the site. The zoning of the different functionalities of the site such as commercial activities, residential areas, social interactivities and eco-preservation, are carefully balanced to achieve optimal connection, linkage and integration. A series of ESD and WSUD measures such as solar/wind energy, water recycling and treatments are incorporated, along with native plant selection these strategies help to support an environmentally friendly living environment for the future.
