The brief was to design the ultimate picnic pack including everything needed for the perfect picnic: food (sweet and savoury), drinks, cutlery, plates, napkins.
My design is based on a survey I undertook at the beginning of a project. I questioned 50 people about their vision of a perfect picnic, such as occasion, food and drinks. I also asked if they would buy already designed picnic pack. A significant percentage said “no” and the most common reason was them not being given a choice of the food included within a certain pack. This was my motivation to design a picnic selection pack - to give M&S customers what they really want - a choice.
Customers will be given a specially designed picnic box which would already include two sets of napkins, two sets of cutlery (knife, spoon and fork) and two plates. As for a food they will have a choice of four different dishes and two drinks from a wide range of products found across the store. Products are designed within the same theme so will be easy to spot.
For the purpose of this brief I designed a sample menu which contains: Strawberries, Quiche Lorraine, Chicken Salad Sandwich, Blueberry Muffins and Lemonade. Packaging for all products is kept within the same theme as the main box. I decided to use a simple patterns with repeated product’s outlines in the background and a label to be of the same style throughout all the packaging. Templates for the main box as well as for food packaging were designed by me.
