Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival

    Find Your Jazz
  • For the 2012 Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival we created an experience where attendees could discover the world of jazz in detail. Jazz is such a diverse style of music that some people may not even know they like a particular style so we set out to help break it down.  10 subcategories were defined and the nearly 1000 performers were placed into their respective style. Large posters and collectible game pieces served as triggers for augmented reality. Smart phone users could download the free Jazzfinder app in the itunes store and on Google Play. Once aimed at the images an entire world of information and sharing channels were opened. Each poster featured displays that style of music at the top of the menu. Fans could hear music samples and buy tracks, see show times and sync to their calendar, share through social channels, and even take part in a virtual photo op - all right from the app. Additional listening stations with interactive menus displayed on ipads continued the experience in the Xerox House of Grooves. The entire program was staffed by volunteers called "Jazzologists". Finally there were areas where fans could select their style of jazz, have their photo taken, and get a custom poster printed on site.
