Based in an interesting cultural area of former industrial London, Wick 24 is a cross programmed project surrounding the existing overground station in Hackney Wick, E9. Steel structures create raised platforms in which sits a 'Canal Boat Market' during daytime and is transformed into an open air theatre at night. During market periods there are also facilities for the boats to be cleaned or repaired.
The project aims to emphasise the importance in community and it encourages locals to come and sell, and to continue to do so at appropriate points throughout the city, in doing so reviving the canal industry. The theatre programme is an extension of the spectacle of having a structure raised around the tracks and is a celebration of theatre culture within East London.
