A startling study stated that 65% of girls as young as 5-years old have already formed ideas about dieting. It inspired me to create this book to illustrate the vicious cycle of how the media has affected our lives and how we feel about ourselves. I believe the media plays a huge role in defining our social standards of beauty, affecting individuals directly and indirectly. However, "the media’s standard of beauty and thinness is achievable only by less than 5% of the female population."

This book portrays the invisible messages girls faced in their daily lives that affect their body image by using a single character, Sally, and therefore creating a parallel-linear storyline. Using unusual ways to illustrate the different concepts, I hope to raise awareness to women on these invisible messages so that they are more conscious of how the media is affecting us and how, subsequently, these women themselves affect others around them.
