The Virtual Homeschool Group's home page makeover:
BEFORE: Virtual Homeschool Group's Moodle homepage before the graphics facelift. The original design felt to heavy for a K to 12 course site. We wanted to liven up the color a bit and make it easier for new families to find their way through the account registration process.
Virtual Homeschool Group's homepage after the facelift and new logo. The prominent steps for newcomers to the site has helped them find their way through registration process and how to find the open office hours and online classroom. Step 3 in the "How do I get Started" section can be easily shifted to full color when live classes are enrolling or the lower color intensity when the live classes are full and only the at-your-own-pace classes are left with seats. The 'logged in' avatar and navigational elements were a big with the students and parents as well.
The original design was very squared off and angular. One of the goals we had was to soften some of the edges of the design with rounded elements. This background base is used in many places on interior pages keeping the theme's feel throughout the site's elements such as course FAQs. The Virtual Homeschool Group logo often giving and ideal and universal location to create 'return to home' hotspots that echo the location of the breadcrumbs on the interior course pages.
