This was my inaugural assignment as a Senior Copywriter and Content Developer for E.B. Lane's interactive division. When the agency won this contract from Cable One, they had to staff up very quickly and I was fortunate to be brought on board in the first wave of veteran contractors. The primary creative challenge on this project was to update vast amounts of legacy content under some very prescriptive requirements from a large hands-on client corporate team. Front end design and back end development had to happen concurrently to meet a very aggressive "go live" date, and being co-located with all of my creative and technical colleagues turned out to be a huge advantage.
Of all the content development assignments I've done, this one had the most technical constraints and the transactional nature of each element required the wording to be extremely sparse. Body copy had to work almost like a headline in most cases, and the psychology of each page was driven by large amounts of consumer data that the client collected from their old website and from all of their field operations. In addition to creating the master content outline for the site, I also developed every iteration of the sitemap in cooperation with the back end developers and managed all of the client copy edits. We also did an exhaustive competitive analysis of the top sites in the cable space.
