The story of an artist drownd by his own talent.
The new video for "PCU" by Monterey, Mexico synth duo White Ninja is described by the band as "The story of an artist drownd by his own talent [sic]," which is exactly what the squelchy quasi-dub of the track sounds like. Even without the video, the agitated rhythms/riddims of Leo Marz and Octavio Figueroa might recall the beginnings of the permanent bad trip that has enveloped the mind of the video's semi-protagonist. As we follow this nameless, chain-smoking musician and his loyal dog through an empty home (and by extension, crumbling psyche), we learn that his creativity has turned toward insanity and violence. It's both disturbing and funny in all the right ways, and makes you wonder what Marz and Figueroa like doing in their spare time. Let's hope they don't follow a similar path, but for more warped pop like "PCU," it could be worth it. Read Less
