This project addresses the problem of first-year students not knowing their way around Leeds, nor where certain buildings are.
Resolve has two parts;
- An A1CMYK colour separation screen-print, identifying buildings around Leeds,
- and an A2 key on trace, to be placed over the top of the visual piece. Each building is in location, categorised by type, and contains other data displayed within, revealed by the key.
As this was a data-mapping project for me, I didn't want my work to be solely digitally produced, hence although it was mapped and designed digitally, I hand-screened the resolve, adding a further visual, tactile quality.
The data itself is quite complex, only revealed by the key. For example, the red circle markers are University buildings, and each ring within the outer displays how many students are present at that institute, one ring being 5,000 students.
