I was tasked to create a poster for a visiting artist to Southern Illinois University. Lee Littlefield is a sculpture artist. He draws his inspiration from organic forms, more specifically the forms found in bayous near his home. Because of this, I wanted to emulate his artistic style by simplifying one of his sculptures and removing it from context.
The way the object is placed on the marron field activates that negative space and lets the eye roam through out the poster. the inclusion of the white border is there to contain the viewer and the image inside itself. Type was intergraded within the contrast of the maroon and white to reinforce hierarchy and composition.
