This is a personal long-term project which started in 2011.
On the last day of April Swedes gather around bonfires to celebrate the entrance of spring every year. Some places it is also celebrated with fireworks. The bonfire tradition originates from a practical need for farmers to burn old materials to make place for the new. There are variations in how the tradition is celebrated across the country, but this project mainly explores how the tradition is celebrated in small towns in the county Västerbotten.
