The Vancouver International Film Festival promotional package was developed publicize an upcoming film festival through a cohesive design set. Four direct mail postcards were created to compliment the poster, which is the central focus of the design series. In visually rendering the concept statement “Body Language. What’s yours?”, specific body parts were selected to communicate through body language. In order to communicate the film aspect of this package, each of the photographic elements were treated with black and white filters, as well as other contrast-altering treatments. This treatment created an identity reminiscent of film noire, and provided a smooth transition from the concept statement to the subject matter.
In order to give the package a cohesive look and feel, and complement the film-noire treatment, bold colours were adopted, and combined with an equally bold typeface, league gothic. Although the three major elements—large photos, bold typography and bold colours—would normally be competing for attention, a harmony was achieved, in sectioning the poster much like a filmstrip. This provided the opportunity to pair each bold colour with a single major element.
