Van der Glas is a silversmith from Melbourne, Australia. She uses human teeth and hair that people donate to her. Unusual? Perhaps, but teeth too have been utilised for adornment by tribes people for centuries - often indicative of status, worn as 'trophies' or protective talismans.
I chose Van der Glas as my fictional client for my packaging design because of this beautiful and rare jewellery. To create the feeling of quality and reflect the uniqueness of the product, I chose to make the packaging from scratch. I sewed using natural fabrics like (imitated) leather, linen and handmade paper. All illustrations are therefore hand drawn.
The jewellery is made by Van der Glas, the packaging is designed and made by me.
