My project is about permanent childhood. When a young child dies, they never have the opportunity to grow up ,they are fixed in our memories at that age. I am using cheap plastic toys, mistreated dolls, broken teddy bears which are often in bad shape to emphasis the idea of lost childhood and the absurdity of death at young ages.
Most of the works are three dimensional; They are wrapped objects, objects hung creating a mobile and wall assemblages.
This project deals with the idea of how we manage to move on with our life after losing someone we love. The reason why I decided to wrap some of the toys is because I was influenced by a Romanian tradition. This custom refers to the fact that after someone’s death the relatives have to wrap all his belongings and give them away so that the deceased could have them in the afterlife .This process is meant to help the relatives relieve their pain.
