Every year Boise State recognizes it research departments and the work they are doing for the University. Our entire class was given the assignment to design a cover for the new year and new work, after several rounds of changes and modifications, my cover was chosen. The way I sold them the ideas went like this -
I was asking the ladies responsible for choosing the design "If they had ever seen the movie Meet the Parents, with Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro?" Both women responded "No". It felt like a big swing and a miss to me, but I knew I could convince them otherwise of my reasons for the design! In the movie Ben Stiller pulls up in his rental car to his future father-in-laws house. The car he drives up in, is a green one. Robert De Niro asks Ben if he picked out the rental car, Ben replies with "No, the guy at the dealership did". Robert then replies "That's to bad, because I heard that only geniuses choose green".
I told the women that my idea for choosing green for the design was not that I was a genius, but that the people and the work going into the UGRSC was the work of geniuses. There is more to it than just that, but that little story right there got the ladies to nod their heads in agreement.
