The goal of this project is the production of usable ceramics based on traditional manufacturing methods and modern design. Our products are 100% hand-made so every piece is treated individually. All materials that we use come from domestic suppliers and our products are 100% enviromentally friendly. Every product is unique, designed in-house by our skilled team who produce bespoke and unusual orders of the finest quality.
Our aim was to create the tiles that will have a modern design and also be manufactured acording to traditional methods. The quality and style of our products differ much from those available on common market. The essential features of UNICO tiles are the great number of eventual arrangements and huge potential in creating decorative compositions which can also be accented with adequate illumination.
The UNICO tiles consist of two modules - ARCO and CANTO. The tiles were designed in such way that their sides are glazed and their edges may or may not touch one another. The patterns based on tangent sets will create compositions with continuous surface and the patterns in which the tangency is not kept will make a set with visible tile sides and in consequence will not make a continuous surface. Iluminado company is a patent holder for UNICO tiles.
Here are a few examples of sets in which the edges of the tiles are tangent and create a uniform surface. Combining four tiles we obtain six basic arrangements with same side walls. Thus it’s possible to replicate, rotate and combine with other sets which have more or less similar, three-dimensional structures in order to create an expanded set composed of a number of unique and streamlined subsets.
Here are examples of arrangements in which the tile's edges are not tangent and therefore don't bring about surface uniformity. This introduces a more complex and convex effect. For that reason building a composition of UNICO tiles allows the designer to be like a sculptor – forming a surface that is more relief-like and can be freely shaped.
