In my graduation year at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie I became founder and Secretary General of the Universal authority for National Flag Registration. This organization's mission was to standardize the design of national flags and to organize their intellectual ownership. To this purpose existing flags were analyzed and their colours and patterns formed the basis of a flag coding system. The UNFR's only tangible output has been this catalogue, the UNFR Index, which contains a vast collection of flag designs -- a source of inspiration for new countries emerging in the 21st century.
