  • Typographic Monument
This piece was created as a memorial to our 7th President Andrew Jackson. Using only his initials "A" & "J" I constructed a combined typographic form that would relate to the pistols used during this period of time. Andrew Jackson was among one of the most famous duelers of his time. He was cited in at least 13 public duels though historians believe these numbers to be much higher. The monument would be a memorial for the late president. He was a bold, firm, strong, and somewhat abrasive character as such his monument would exhibit these qualities. With two inward pointing guns and the use of reversal of positive and negative the duality of life and death that accompanies a duel would be expressed. The final piece would be roughly 6 feet wide x 4 feet tall and constructed of wood and placed within a gallery setting or as an entrace to an exhibit.
