  • In this assignment, I was asked to define myself as a designer and typographer by creating a personal monogram from my initials. Then, I was to incorporate that monogram into a booklet, shaping a narrative about who I am as a typographic designer. This was the result.
  • As a practical renegade, there are four basic principles that I follow when I design. Innovation is one of those principles. As a designer, I strive to be as new and different as possible with my design solutions. New problems are inevitable, so to me, ‘design’ and ‘innovation’ are almost interchangeable. Honesty in design is just as important. I recognize the past as inspiration, not a bank of ideas to steal from. Honesty also means a design should be true to its form. Usefulness is what gives a design it’s worth. A good design has purpose; solves a problem. Understandability is perhaps the most important principle.  It allows people to intepret the design and use the way it was intended to be used. Ultimately, I want to design for people, not designers. I think this mark and my booklet embody all four principles and work together to define me as a designer.
