  • Typeface Book

My first letterpress and book-making experience came when a group of my colleagues and I produced a book called “Typefaces.” Using the typeface Zapfino, I created a self portrait out of various characters of the type family. I chose Zapfino for its elegant lines and widths and shapes which gave me a more scrolling, decorative look which is an element I am attracted to. I then letterpressed my design. Each of my colleagues did this and we all contributed our self portraits to each other’s books. Between each portrait a blue-green velum was added to separate the portraits. We constructed our entire books ourselves. We glued the book fabric to the board, cut the paper and the velum, printed our portraits, and bound the book using a stab binding method.
