Tsunmai Warning Buoy

Major tsunamis can be devastating natural disasters and 80% of these occur in the Pacific region where islands are typically remote with little established infrastructure.

The Tsunami Warning Buoy is a standalone device anchored offshore of vulnerable islands. It detects drawdown that usually occurs up to twenty minutes before a tsunami strikes.

A tilt switch triggers an alarm which warns people within one mile of the device and allows them to take appropriate action.

Full CAD designs and working prototype were constructed.
