  • Trinidad & Tobago 50th Anniversary Of Independence LogoA personal branding project
  •  Background Information

Trinidad and Tobago achieved its independence on August 31st, 1962 and will observe 50 years of
independence in 2012. The Government of Trinidad and Tobago will remember and celebrate this
important milestone with a series of fitting initiatives that recognize and celebrate some of the important
events, peoples and places that helped shaped the country’s rich and diverse history.

To observe the Golden Jubilee, the Government seeks a logo that visually reflects the nation’s journey.
The winning Logo will be used for all official events, projects, programs and promotions that celebrate
the 50th anniversary of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. The competition is open to all citizens of
Trinidad and Tobago, both home and abroad.
  • Inspiration for logo

What does independence mean to a citizen of Trinidad & Tobago? To me, it means we are free to
be ourselves, free to forge our identity in a post-colonial landscape.

That identity, I believe is captured by the flame. Every Trinbagonian has a fire within them that
burns with uplifting energy. We are children of the sun, bright and vibrant like our rich culture and
history. The red white and black plumes represent both national pride and this energy we have as a
nation. This fire is our love for our country that nothing, not even water can put out.
