Burry Stander was a true South African hero. As a mountain biker, he was the UCIMountain Bike World Cup under-23 men's cross-country 2009 world champion, represented SA at the 2012 OlympicGames and was the only South African to win the Absa Cape Epic – twice - with his team partner, Christoph Sauser in 2011 and 2012.
On the 3rd of January 2013, while on his way home from a morning training session, Burry was struck and killed by a minibus taxi. He was 25.
On that day we lost anambassador, an international champion and mostly, a great South African.
We wanted to pay tribute to a hero.
We recreated Shosholoza – a South African song synonymous with sport and victory - using the same bike that Burry would have used in this year's Absa Cape Epic. Various sounds were created off the bike itself and then carefully pieced together to create the song.
This tribute is not only to Burry's memory, but is also a celebration of his tremendous achievements as an athlete and a true South African in every sense. Read Less
