The brief was to redesign snacks and drinks in an unorthodox way.
I have redesigned identity of the refreshments served at the TrentFM Arena, Nottingham. The venue is the home of the Nottingham Trent Panthers ice hockey team. I wanted to use an unconvential theme for such a large venue with a very varied clientele. The theme of ice hockey violence was chosen as the sport is highly physical and violent conflict is something that is common place and is an aspect of the sport enjoyed by the fans. Also given the nature of the snacks, the tomato ketchup often consumed with them provides an interactive level as the stains left by the condiment on the packaging represent the wounds shown from the conflicts illustrated. This interactivity also allows the punchline to illustrations be delivered without portraying graphic violence, making them more amusing, appealing to a majority of ice hockey fans regardless of age or gender. The posters and the carrier bag do not use the same interactivity as condiments will not go so near them. The imagery used of the ‘face-off’ links to the theme of ice hockey violence as it is the tension built before the game is started/restarted and the two players clash. The heirarchy of the text on these also subtley reflects waves tensionthat occour from the moment the game faces-off to the moment of elation when a goal is scored. The TrentFM logo has been modified from bubbles to blood splats to match the theme.
