"Transgender Awareness Art and Film Festival" 2012, 24x36 poster
This poster was created during my History of Graphic Design class. The assignment was to create a poster inspired by the Works Progress Administration, which was formed in the 1930s to combat unemployment caused by the Great Depression. It was suggested that we choose a social issue that was important to us and create our poster in support of that issue.
I decided to create a poster advertising a Transgender Awareness Art and Film festival. The festival would be for Trans* artists to showcase their work and raise awareness of Transgender issues, especially those pertaining to hate crimes and violence. I choose to use sans serif typography and a simple illustration, which were two very common elements found in WPA posters. I also used a limited, yet contemporary color palette that mimics the same colors used on the Transgender Pride flag.
