The brief was to design a new magazine targeted at graphic designers and design enthusiasts. Considering this visually sophisticated audience, the magazine had to pay close attention to typographic detailing and innovative word-image relationships.
The masthead for 'TIXE' which is 'EXIT' backwards makes reference to this through an arrow made from the negative space between the 'X' and the 'E'.
The project required the design of the first three covers of the new publication with an emphasis on making the covers look like a series. The layout for the feature article – 'The Crystal Goblet, or Printing Should Be Invisible' was designed using the magazines grid structure and style guide. The feature article – 'Fluid Mechanics: Typographic Design Now' required the breaking of the grid to enhance the meaning of the text.
The magazine is printed on a discreet fine-mesh textured stock in natural white.
