- Mashkodesimin, Ogwisimaan, and Mandaamin are the three sisters of Ojibwe lore: Beans, Squash and Corn. Mandaamin (Corn) was the wise, protective older sister, who supported Mashkodesimin (Beans), the cheerful climber. In turn, Mashkodesimin shaded Ogwisimin (Squash) as she ranged outwards, looking for adventure.
These three works have been done with acrylic paint, golden calcite and tangerine calcite on canvas.
Crystal Paintings are acrylic works with the added dimension of Crystal and Mineral powder additives. Modifying the old methods of creating paint pigments from raw materials, i add not only colour to a work, but energetic vibrations. By clearing, charging and converting Crystals and Minerals into additives for acrylic based polymer paints, these paintings not only exhibit the energy and properties of the stones, but they can be charged and meditated with just as a whole stone can.
The process leaves a textured finish, which can range from a slight matte finish to a grainy texture, based on the hardness of the Crystals and Minerals used. All works are touchable, and i encourage this!
