Title: Signs

Year: 2002

Theme: The world today is mainly visual, there aren't five senses any more. Especially with the symbolism of objects. There are so many images around that we are lead to believe that we know everything about an object just by seeing it. My thesis is about this fact, taking objects that will not reach their full potential of symbolism without the sight. And then it goes further, using this symbolism in photography.
How a photographer can make the symbolism personal and squeeze it with his own imagination to create.

Presentation: Six square boxes 30cm on top of wooden pillars 1.5 mts high that have each one hole big enough to fit a hand in front of a white wall. The boxes had the black and white pictures glued to the 5 visible sides, showing a real size 360 degree view of the object. The objects where inside the pillars and available only to touch by putting a hand inside the hole. The six color photographs where hanged on the white wall.

Procedure: The photographs on the wall and the cubes are covered with black cloth so nothing is revealed. The teachers are let inside the room and are urged to touch each object trough the holes in the pillars, they cannot see what is inside. Once they have touched all objects the cubes are revealed. They now see what they have touched and sense the symbolism of the objects. Last, the color photographs in the wall are revealed and the show is over.
