Music can be perceived emotionally and structurally and so are visual forms. Music and visual forms both enhance the emotionality of perception. In “Polka Dot Dotty” music video, forms are created in between concrete and abstract way which everyone can relate to their history or experience.
The concept of “Polka Dot Dotty” is to paint a song on the watercolor paper with simple and clear visual forms. Meanwhile, the whole scene is constantly moving from left to right. There is no specific storyline in the music video, but forms correspond with the rhythm and movement. By using triangles throughout the whole video, which is inspired by the band’s logo, random concrete graphics such as Ewok, eyeballs, and astronauts will appear according to lyrics.
There is a dramatic change in the rhythm and tempo in the middle of the song where the background image directs users into another atmosphere. Typography and abstract forms such as lines, pyramids, circles are combined and designed in different layers to create depth of “Polka Dot Dotty.”
Users are given 2 options to control the cursor in “Polka Dot Dotty.”
A. To move around
By controlling the cursor, users can move around wherever the song leads them. They are able to move the first triangle while the trailing triangles will change their moving pattern.
B. To increase the moving speed
Users can also control the moving speed of triangles by left clicking the mouse. Once click, the moving speed of the whole scene from left to right will also speed up. The symbol of cursor will change to white
when it is left clicked.
