  • The other facet of Kampung Mabul
Mabul is well known among divers for its clear blue skies, pristine waters and beautiful corals. But, there is also the other side of Kampung Mabul which is relatively known but conveniently ignored by some.

  • Kampung Mabul
A beautiful fishing village blessed with abundant sunshine year in, year out. It is mostly inhibited by immigrants from the nearby island of southern Philippines, who are mainly Bajau Laut, Bajau Darat and Suluk Muslims.
  • Taking off for a catch
The villagers' main transportation mode is by boat. Their income depend on sea products such as fish and squids.
  • All in a day's work
A boy and his first catch of the day. His catches are mainly sold in the mainland, Semporna.
  • Shying away from the camera
A boy, too young to go out to the sea.
  • Uncertain and bleak
In the village, the kids are deprived of education due to the lack of documentation and the repeating cycle of poverty.
  • By choice or by circumstances?
A simple life, due to options, or due to unfavourable conditions?
  • The clothed and unclothed
It's a common sight to see naked and clothed kids share the same playground - tottering, running and swimming around without a care in the world.
