The Wind Portal is an 8 meter high interactive installation. 5,000 paper pinwheels were folded by hand and attached to upright tubes with custom wood joints and 3D printed clips.  Microscopic holes direct air strategically into the windmill pockets, causing them to spin.
The aim of The Wind Portal is to make the visitor feel, hear and be aware of thetransition from an indoor to an outdoor space. The composition of the windmills creates an illusion of a closed threshold - as the visitor gets closer, a passage appears and the gate seems to open up.
